Scanpst feature for Xobni
Every now and then I use scanpst to repair my pst files. Several times i have been looking for a tool, extension or .... that would do that automagically every once in a while or whenever something to repair was detected by a quick scan.
Scanpst can be reasonably quick when it doesnt encounter a lot of errors so when done systematicaly,,,
Today in a lost minute i again searched for an alternative to scanpst and again nothing found for such a small task.
This made me wonder if Xobni wouldnt be perfect to provide this option, agreed its not exactly what Xobni is about but Xobni sure takes advantage of an error free pst.
Just my 2 cents

Inappropriate?Well, I'm assuming that you're aware that our Repair Console does link to ScanPST. I agree that it would be cool if we had something that was a little more user friendly that could provide the same service. In my opinion, the UI of ScanPST leaves a lot to be desired.
Have you tried checking out 'OutlookTools'? It's a great, free application that gives you a lot of control over Outlook.
In any case, I'll talk it over with some of our developers. We are definitely talking about some improvements that we can make to our diagnostic tools!
I’m confident

I thought about mentioning this before but... I think it could be helpful if there was a link to this “repair” menu directly in the Xobni (or Xobni/Diagnostics) group of the start menu rather than having to go through control panel, add/remove programs.
This would still use ScanPST but it makes it a little easier. -
James, just go to Program Files\Xobni and create a shortcut for "UninstallerWizard.exe" to keep on your desktop or some other convenient location. (The Add and Remove Programs step was driving me crazy, so this is what I did about it.) -
Rhonda, thanks for the good suggestion! This should work fine. Still, I think it would be nice if this shortcut was added automatically by the installer. I think more users would find it this way and this would avoid having to manually add it. -
Inappropriate? Thanks for the OutlookTools link :)
I recently had the problem of Xobni to showing in Outlook, i then used the repair but it didnt help, i had scanpst running 3 times (until there were no more errors) and then Xobni appeared again.
It's just a pita to run scanpst until there are no more errors so I wondered, since with a error free pst Xobni runs smoother too, well at least it feels that way, if there could be some pst repair option which would run until the pst is error free and/or auto runs when a certain amount of errors are detected.
I do realise its not the scope of Xobni.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I wanted an automated way to run scanpst as well and ended up putting together a script that automates the process... steps to set it up can be found here: http://opindian.com/blog/2008/09/02/a...
