Ability to configure Xobni for multiple Outlook mailboxes (shared/delegated/public folders)
I have secretaries with full mailbox rights to multiple mailboxes so that they can monitor not only their own Outlook mailbox (mail, tasks, calendar, etc.), but their bosses' boxes as well. How can I configure Xobni to work in all of the mailboxes to which these secretaries have full rights?

This thread started one year ago with the Xobni acknowledgment that the request was worthy of appearing on the company's radar, then it was escalated to an "idea", then eight months ago a Scandinavian developer (clearly enjoying himself rather too much on a ski-slope instead of in his cubicle) reassured us of something we already knew only too well - Xobni does not support multiple mailboxes (or public folders). I felt better immediately.
Now, 11 months later, the company tells us more of what we already knew - "Sorry that Xobni for Outlook does not yet have this feature. We know it is indeed a high request." To make it worse, we are told, "We are listening to each and every topic here and your feedback does help us prioritize what we focus on." Yeah, listening for 11 months and doing nothing really convinces me that our feedback has made a big difference.
So this is how radar-appearing, high request, listened-to, multiple feedback "ideas" are prioritized?
Life must be good on Fisherman's Wharf and on the ski slopes, it would seem. Thank goodness our request wasn't a lower priority one, otherwise we wouldn't even qualify as an idea, and heaven knows where our feedback would have ended up...
Lovely (original) software, shame the people who really cared about the development left. They would have had a few "ideas".
Please listen, and listen real good his time. Just because you can interface with Exchange does not mean that single Exchange accounts are the end of the story. They are just the beginning. We need to be able to access multiple mailboxes AND public folders (to include access to the shared contact folders) otherwise, Xobni will only ever be half-finished. A Xob (sob!) and not a Xobni. How's that for an idea? Anybody listening?

Sorry, this feature doesn't exist in Xobni currently. However, we're aware that this is a feature that some people want, and it is on our radar for inclusion in a future release. Unfortunately, I don't have a definite timetable for when the feature will appear.
Thanks!

Hi Kathy,
I've changed this to an "idea" so we can consider this for the future.
Thanks! -

When it can handle multiple mailboxe I will switch to Plus inmediately
-
same for me!!!

I agree with Hans - as soon as this is a feature I will switch to Plus
-

YES, PLEASE add this feature!!! The ability to search multiple calendars as well as multiple mailboxes (well, calendar is technically part of the mailbox...) would CHANGE MY LIFE!
If you do develop this, being able to search single or multiple "mailboxes" would be PERFECT! Sometimes I need to search all, but often need to search just my boss' mail, tasks or calendar.
Thank you for looking into this feature, regardless of whether or not there are the "controls" I request in this post!!!!! -

I agree, I will switch to Pro after this gets added. My company has over 3600 clients and we have our email conversations shared through a mailbox. Once this feature goes live, I will switch to Pro for the Whole Office.

Hello,
Can xobni plus search multiple secondary mail box (not public folders) ?

Yep, I'm the same. My company of 120 employees will DEFINITELY upgrade and the 24,000 seats we support will all be encouraged to as well. At present I just can't recommend it.
-
-
I would like it to be informed if this feature is active. I will upgrade directly!
The multiple mailbox search option is exactly what i'm looking for. -

I had someone from Xobni contact me about Enterprise sales in an organisation where I support 280 users. VERY amusing. Honestly, what sort of large organisation DOESN'T use Exchange these days?? And what sort of organisation using Exchange DOESN'T use multiple email boxes??
Xobni in it's current form is useless for large businesses. It serves a purpose ONLY to people using POP servers. -

I’m

Hi Stuart,
Xobni certainly supports Exchange, and is in fact used in 85% of the Fortune 500 companies (including Cisco, Microsoft, Philips)! If you go to our support page at xobni.com/support, you'll notice that the first thing we talk about is Exchange (specifically about running in cached mode). Using myself as an example, I currently rely on Xobni to index and organize the following accounts in a single instance of Outlook:
- My Xobni Exchange account
- Multiple POP3 accounts
- Gmail over IMAP
- Hotmail
- Yahoo
The only thing we don't support at this point is multiple Exchange mailboxes. In my experience supporting enterprise companies most users only have one Exchange mailbox each (although they may have other mail accounts). I'd be very interested to talk to you about your particular situation and help you get Xobni up and running in your environment. If you select Contact Support from the support page, I'd really appreciate if you submitted a ticket referencing my name in the subject line and I'll be able to follow up with you directly.
For more information about our Enterprise offering, please see this link:

Thanks!
Eirik-
While your reply is helpful, Eirik, even in SMBs sharing a mailbox is not uncommon. For example in my department we all have our own Exchange mailboxes but we also have a departmental mailbox which we share. At the moment Xobni does not recognise this shared mailbox which leaves a great deal of our primary business correspondence unindexed. As so many people are asking for the mutiple mailbox facility would it not be a good idea to start down this road. Stephen Jefferson, ICT Manager, Sherborne School for Girls

I never said that Xobni didn't support exchange..
I said "And what sort of organisation using Exchange DOESN'T use multiple email boxes?? Xobni in it's current form is useless for large businesses. It serves a purpose ONLY to people using POP servers."
I have 190 different clients, all with 100+ employees and I can't think of any of them that DON'T use multiple mailboxes. PA's share their bosses emails, departments have generic support mailboxes etc etc.
Eirik - You are more than welcome to contact me on the email address listed in my profile. I have no idea how you propose to get Xobni up and running when it doesn't support what I need, but you are more than willing to try. I do have close to 4,000 users under my care. -

Stuart,
Unless you filed a support case with you, I'm afraid I can't see your email address. Part of what GetSatisfaction provides is the ability to remain anonymous. If you don't mind, can you please go to xobni.com/support and select the Contact Support link on the left? Just make sure it's marked with my name in the subject line.
Thanks!

It's been 6 months since I posted this shortcoming. Any progress in getting multiple mailboxes added??????

Can xobni index a shared calendar? We use these in our org and I'd love to be able to search those shared calendars.

Hi, any progress on this idea? It would really help my everyday life. Regards.

I keep getting "updated" BETA's to test - 6 so far, but NONE have worked yet.

Is there anything new about this topic? I have to two mailboxes and this is not uncomon in larger businesses (one personal account / second service account)
-

This is ridiculous. I work for a B2B software company myself and if I went public with "... we're aware that this is a feature that some people want, and it is on our radar for inclusion in a future release" and then 11 months later nothing had happened, with no interim statements of progress or delivery dates, we would not be in business for much longer and I would be looking for another employer.
Come on Xobni, you have a really great product but you need to make that quantum leap from being a really cool tool for home users to becoming a must-have professional Enterprise add-on for businesses with extensive commitments to Outlook.
I just have two items on my wish list:
1. Support for multiple mailboxes
2. Support for public folders.
if you can crack those two, welcome to my world (and a flood of Plus upgraders). -
-
Well I bow out tomorrow... A number of employees at my mid-sized company are subscribers to xobni plus but without these features couldn't convince our board to invest in this excellent product. We move to a hosted solution tomorrow minus xobni... An opportunity missed Xobni!!!
The fact that you don't seem to communicate or listen to you customers speaks volumes! -
-
Hi All, Sorry that Xobni for Outlook does not yet have this feature. We know it is indeed a high request. I understand that some of you will find that Xobni is not the solution for you until this feature is implemented. We are listening to each and every topic here and your feedback does help us prioritize what we focus on. We simply don't have anything to announce about this particular request, and are keeping it as an "idea" for now.

I work in a support environment - My own mailbox, two helpdesk mailboxes and two admin mailboxes are mounted in my outlook alongside public folders and shared calendars within.
I subscribed to Xobni plus today due to its ability to pick up on mail addresses for cc'd and bcc'd email addresses and throw them into the cached mail options, however I'm a bit disappointed that there are no additional mailbox options.
Here's hoping you guys get the resource to look at this in better detail. A lot of us corporate users will really appreciate it.
Thanks Xobni!

It's been 18 months and still they have done nothing. My advice would be to forget about Xobni and find a product that cares about its customers.
-

I don't understand, while searching a contact in Xobni, I found as a result a message stored in my shared mailbox. the only thing was that the body of the message was not available in Xobni toolbar.
It seems it's half working already -

I'm glad someone said it. All I had the guts to do was pay for the stupid plus - worth nothing.
-

I've just uninstalled Xobni - this could have been a great feature, it was not worth anything to me without it
-
-
I would upgrade to enterprise in a heartbeat if this feauture was available.
-
-
Give up. It's been a year and a half and despite all the promises Xobni don't give a shit about this update. They cater for home users and don't care about big corporate business. Outlook 2010 search is pretty powerful.

I too have been extremely in interested in this feature. I have had a couple of great conversations with Eirik at Xobni over the last several months. He helped me understand the technical challenge they face and what they are working on... When using exchange, shared/delegated mailboxes are not cached on your local machine. Outlook only allowed caching of your primary mailbox. Xobni performance sufferrs greatly for most users if it has to try to function with emails over the network. My company went ahead and purchased Enterprise licenses for our organization as the other functionality of Xobni has worked very well for us. Our email boxes are huge and Microsoft indexing just does not handle our search needs. I found a hotfix from MS that allows the caching of shared mailboxes on the local machine. Eirik is working with this information and will perform some testing. If I learn something, I will be happy to share it here. I have really appreciated Xobni's responsiveness to my other requests in the past and hopefully with this new information, they will be able to make something work...

-
Don't hold your breath. I dealt with Erik for more than 6 months on this issue and he just disappeared. Outlook/Exchange 2010 DOES support caching of additional mailboxes.
-
-
Outlook does support caching of public folders (if you add them to your Favorites).
-
-
I should clarify that I'm not pissed off with Eirik specifically, but Xobni in general. A year and a half and still nothing. I've given up and uninstalled the bloody program - waste of time for me.

Yep, I've given Xobni the flick as well. It's a shame because we had 60 users using it here and we have more than 560 clients around the country (each with 20+ users) who we would have deployed it to.
Shame on Xobni -
-
It is a must!!! Would not buy it knowing that the program does not search in all mailboxes, only in primary one... I actually bought 2 licences for each e-mail address hoping to solve this problem, but the search still goes only to primary address no matter how I am logging in. In current business environment it is a must-must. I like the program though, but if the issue would not be resolved shortly - no point to use it... Such a pity.
-
-
We're a mulitnational company (300+ employees) and have purchased three pro licences to test the product but it seems that the shared mailboxes are not indexed by Xobni - and that's really too bad. Everything we have of business relevance sits in shared mailboxed so unless there is a quick solution we will uninstall and look elsewhere for a solution.
-
-
-
-
It has been way too long...maybe it's time to get some external help in getting this feature added?
Also, stop removing my posts. -
-
Not a business approach... It is very sad that Xobni can't keep up with progress and showing no respect to customers seeking help. Giving up. 5 pro licence in our company will never be renewed.
Nevertheless wishing you luck in finding the solution. -
