I searched the FAQ but couldn't find this. How is Rank of a contact calculated? What is it based on?

Howdy,
Xobni uses a combination of:
1) Whether or not you have ever sent the person email, and
2) The frequency of emails between you and the person, or emails between a 3rd party and both of you.
We try to use this information to determine who your most important contacts are. I hope you've found it useful / interesting!
Best,
Adam Smith

Very interesting, but it took me a week to stumble across #1. It would be nice to be able to pull up a list.

I agree, it'd be great to see a list, perhaps even just a top 10

I'm with you guys...I did actually email the very same thing to the Support team, but haven't heard anything back (didn't expect to really, they must be inundated with us lot going "Wouldn't it be nice if......" ;) )
My suggestion was to add the rankings list into Xobni analytics - now that I come to think of it, "wouldn't it be nice if" you could see your top "n" contacts for this month, last month, last 3/6/12 months etc...kinda builds on the "people I haven't spoken to in a while" panel on the Xobni sidebar...
Hope this makes it into a future version, it gets my vote :D
Mark.

AdamSmith:
Thanks for the explanation. My wife has been ranked #1, and I find that very encouraging (very glad you didn't pick my mother as my #1 contact). But today I found #6, and I can't for the life of me figure out why she's #6. I haven't emailed her in months, and it was a short-term contract so it was only for about 4 or 5 months that we were in correspondence. Perhaps it also has to do with size of emails? (big attachments)
Also, I ran into contact #2355 yesterday, and I was surprised I had so many!
I can't wait until you can provide a list. I'm interested not just in the "top10" although taht would be interesting too, but overall rankings in the database. It would be so fun to see how I could possibly have someone other than a spammer be so low in the queue.

Hi,
I send myself an email to find some statistics on myself :)
A few funy things i found out:
I am my own #1 in ranking
In my network list the sorting is almost as is the ranking of my contacts
Questions:
Why am i my own #1? (that is in Xobni) -> it just took a while for Xobni to find out i'am myself :)
How is the sorting of contacts done?

When I calculate that, it doesn't seem to work based on number of conversations or number of emails in and out (or the combination of the two).
Adam - Can you help?

The Contact Ranking doesn't seem to work consistently.
My WIfe should be #1 yet she varies between 2 and 6.

Should as in must? Or is the really the person you exchange most mails with?

No, she IS the person I exchange mail with most often. IM is blocked at her office so we pretty much IM through e-mail. :)

It would be nice if you could decline/approve the ranking. Or better yet set rules to redefing the ranking process. This way I could look at the ranking of my #1, realize that it's me, and deny the ranking based on user being myself.
There is a lot of things you could do with this really.
Deny Ranking - when it asks you why you could select things like - distribution list i.e. not applicable, person was my #1 contact, but has since quit that position and now should no longer be ranked, etc.
Just to throw in my .02.....I find the ranking completely useless. I have a person that I have sent 2 emails to (received none) and she is ranked 12th. Another contact who I deal with almost daily and we have swapped 280 emails (almost a 50/50 split on sent/received) is ranked 23rd. On an unrelated note...not sure if anyone else has seen this but since install Xobni, the last letter on all of my folder names is cut off. Ugh.

My #6 contact should be #2. There are people in my top ten list that should be maybe #40 or #50. The program is great, but this definitely needs to be fixed!

If not, then please explain the how the rankings in the attached JPG are justified.
http://www.graham.gb.com/xobni/rankings.JPG
Additionally, the xobni user guide shows a screen shot of a ranking list that can not be explained.
Please do not say it is calculated based on "EMAIL TRAFFIC" or anything similarly meaningless in response to this thread.
I think we simply want to know whether this is getting addressed and which version is it targetted for?
My concern seems to be that no-one at xobni agrees this looks wrong.

Great point! This builds on some of the other issues that we have brought up.
The statistics in their current form are worthless to me for the same reasons already specified. I shouldn't be my number one contact. I guess it could be an option but why? One of the people I exchange lots and lots of e-mails with has me ranked way down on the list and someone he had one e-mail with is at the top. This is true of the length of time someone responds as well. For example this person responded in 39 minutes with that one e-mail. I typically respond within a few minutes BUT sometimes I don't respond for 4-8 hours or days if I'm gone. Then the statistics make it look like I don't respond very fast. I'm not sure there is a good solution to all this.
BTW - Xobni please REMOVE the warning symbol at the bottom of the screen about CEM. It makes me think there is something wrong and when I check it I discover that you're trying to once again insist that it is bad to not use CEM. This issue is probably the most frustrating for me.

How often is the ranking recalculated?

I was wondering about the time span included in the ranking. It seems that I have contacts that may have left my company many months ago, or for whatever other reason we are no longer actively exchanging emails, but they are included in the ranking. I think they may be shown at a higher rank based on email volume from long ago, but if the ranking were based on a shorter (more recent) time period, then they might not be ranked at all.

Perhaps there should be some Options to choose how the ranking is calculated. For example:
1) Show me the ranking for every person I've communicated with.
2) Show me the ranking ONLY for current e-mails.
3) Show the ranking for a specific date range.
