Hi,
I just wanted to clarify part of the privacy policy:

"1. Information You Provide to Us:

We receive and store any information you enter on our website, software, or provide to us in any other way. You can choose not to provide us with certain information, but that may limit your experience. "

Does this mean that info entered in the Xobni software is sent to and stored on Xobni's servers?

Cheers,
Paul.

It's a bit concerning that this question has not been answered. Can you please provide a clear statement about what is or isn't submitted from the Xobni addin to Xobni servers? It is a free product after all, so one naturally has to wonder why it is free and what the tradeoff is.

I found this post from Matt Brezina:

http://www.geeksugar.com/1751789

Of course, that is an external blog, so I think it would be very important to put this statement, clear and simple, onto the official pages of Xobni:

Hey Guys, Matt Brezina, founder of Xobni here.

Sorry if we didn't make this more clear, but with Xobni your personal data never leaves your own personal computer. Xobni does not share any information about how you use email with your boss or other people that you email. We wouldn't like that either! Xobni is a personal productivity tool that you can comfortably use without any fear of your personal data being shared.

If you want to check out Xobni's fast search, conversation threading, and quick attachment management you can download it at www.xobni.com for free

Thanks,
Matt
Co-founder, Xobni

Okay, something a bit disconcerting. I just installed Xobni and it is doing the first index. While it's indexing, there is a little dynamica box which shows various hints and tips about Xobni. One of the items (I didn't get a chance to write it down word for word) says:

"Xobni users typically communicate with about 2000 people"

How would Xobni know this information? Is it sending data about its indexes to Xobni servers. Of course, no big deal if it's anonymous data, but still very worrisome!

The first thing I do after installing a program is look for the "options" or "preferences." Saves me a lot of unnecessary worry and prevents or minimizes unexplained events.

If you look at the Xobni options, you will find this on the general tab:

Product Improvement Program

This allows Xobni to send anonymous information about features you use to our servers, and helps us make better products. This information is sent anonymously and does not contain any personal data

__ Turn on Product Improvement Program

I have it turned on, but IIRC, that's not the default (i.e., it did not install with that option turned on).

See the attachment for the actual appearance of the tab.

Hello
I have a urgent question to ask. I love Xobni but I may have to stop using it and tell people I know to stop using it.
The reason is this... when I click on an email and look at the profile of that person in Xobni, I see a section called "Person's Network". In this section I can see a whole raft of email addresses that I dont know or have had contact with.
Can you please explain why email id's from someone else's address book seem to be visible from my Xobni? I have checked and they can see mine as well.
This is a blatant breach of privacy as far as I can see and is I am sure against all EU laws.
Please provide me with feedback asap - I hope I am wrong on this!

You are not seeing anyone else's address book. The "Network" tab also lists e-mails of people that were CCd on e-mails to you. If the icon to the left of the name is orange, it means you directly communicated with that person. If that icon is gray - it means you've never communicated directly, but you or they were CCd on some e-mail(s) between yourself and another contact.

I think this question came up before and was answered by Xobni people.

Hi,
I still cannot find any official statement that xobni is NOT collecting any information from my email/computer. Maybe I just do not understand the definition of the word "personal". If my "personal" data is not leaving my PC, what data is? If none, then please make it clear, if some then also please make it clear what it is. A nice disclaimer or similar would be appreciated.

eydelber cites Matt Brezina "Xobni does not share any information about how you use email with your boss or other people that you email". Is xobni sharin the information with someone who is neither "my boss" nor "other person who I email"?

I like xobni since it helps me find the emails faster and is generally very useful. However, I just uninstalled it because I am concerned about my privacy and the privacy of people I correspond with. I would gladly reinstall... Sorry, guys.
