View Full Version : Next feature
As a Xobni user, there are features and functionality I'd like to see added to the program, wouldn't you? This poll is a way for us, the user community, to vote on what we would like to see next. If you have other ideas, please post them in this forum. We'll run polls periodically to see what people are most anxious for.

I personally would like to see better integration with MS Outlook contacts. The Outlook Contacts picture integration as mentioned in the poll would be nice but also a quick "Add to Contacts" link if a sender is not already in your Outlook contacts. I'd imagine this would not be TOO hard to implement as Xobni already attempts to pull a phone number from the contact IF the contact exists.
It could even be taken a minor step further and allow you to specify which data from the Outlook contact is displayed in the Xobni interface such as Fax #, mobile #, web address and so on.

It would be cool if Xobni could search my IM-logs and more important keep track of when i've had a converstation with someone. This would improve the keep in touch feature (why should I email someone I've just talked to) and the rank of my contacts.
A plugin for msgplus live would be awesome.
I'd love to tie my IM history into Xobni Search. I'd suggest for a client such as Pigin. I use Pidgin because I have customers that use ICQ and other use MSN and others use Yahoo and others use AIM. I'd even switch my IM client to another universal IM client if it tied message history to Xobni...

I sent in a request awhile back to Xobni asking for that as well (grabbing the email address info and converting it into a new contact in Outlook).
Others I'd like to see would be adding a Delete Message button in the Xobni pane, including *.PNG as a graphic file type in the Update Image feature, linking the photos in Outlook and Xobni, a Nickname feature for contacts who show up in Xobni with multiple names (Steve and Stephen, etc.) and a Workday Schedule Time Feature that limits the available time to the work day.
I'm sure there are more - but some of these would enhance Xobni even more !

That one I'd love to see as well! :)
Or a right-click delete in the 'conversations' field!

1) Highlight contacts that are new: this would make it easy to delete the lonely girl emails that I get constantly.
2) Sort contacts into Personal and Bulk.
3) Accept multiple email adresses per sender.
4) Rename names of contacts.

Could really do with some search options here:
Set ignore folders:
i.e. '\Junk Emails'........................Created by our email server etc. Junk IS Junk!
Ignore certain emails:
i.e. Ignore all 'Reciepts'...............They are usually blank anyway!
Search by phrase:
i.e. Search using "Peter Moss" finds all Peter, Moss AND 'Peter Moss'
I know the phrase I'm loking for, so I only want the full 'phrase' hits!
Apart from that a truly imba product guys.
Really fast :D

I'd like contact integration to be a little more intelligent, also taking phone numbers and recognising multiple e-mail addresses as stored in the contacts. Ideally, it would also recognise contacts by name if the e-mail address is missing from the contact - and add it in.

I've made the comment before about analytics (i.e. displaying analytics specific to the current email correspondent such as average response times etc.).
However, this is about priorities and I would echo the other comments above that tighter integration with Outlook Contacts should probably come first.
Cheers

Hi
I am looking for search options similar to thuderbird and/or gmail
things like
subject:
from:
to/cc:
body:
right now, if i search for subject:keyword
it shows all the emails
also, in tbird, If i am viewing Inbox,
search only includes Inbox:
and not the whole list of folders
something like search in current folder should help;
i had not moved from tbird to outlook due to lack of speedy search in outlook;
xobni solves the speedy search problem; but better controls for search is needed to limit the result set.

I am kinda liking Xobni but the Search capability is sooooo primitive. Yahoo Desktop Search (X1) has the ne plus ultra for this and Xobni has a long way to go before competing---but I want it to! If you want a screen shot of YDS, please email me.

Yes, definitely a little more control over search. But not even that much more. Probably just the basic things that Google does. Most important: a phrase in quotes just returns occurrences of that phrase. Even if you could just add that in a future rev, it would be much more powerful.

OK, after more use.... primitive but kinda useful :)

Minimum search needs are
"phase"
"word" AND "word" AND ...
FROM and TO keywords (or UI)
FROM:bob AND TO:ted
FROM:bob AND TO:ted AND "search" AND (better OR improvement)
either through a UI or as above

I would really but really like the 'Keep in touch' functionality back! If it would be combined with IM, that would be also pretty cool (like being able to keep in touch through email and IM with Xobni being aware of that too). The 'Keep in touch' feature was so useful.
Anyone knows how to set a search folder in OL2007 that would come up with people that one hasnt written to for a while, exactly as the 'Keep in touch' tab did in Xobni? What are the criteria that would appear in this search folder's conditions?
Thanks.

I am using Xobni and the first time I sent automatic emails to invite I was so ashamed to findout afterwards that my email to my friends addressed them on their Firstname. I have to send then individual emails explaining that my Xobni did that.
Come to think of it everyone calls you friend Bill (his nickname) and usually you email him Bill. And this time you invite him to Xobni and you addressed him WILLIAM !
Xobni has to have some option to pickup nicknames on our address books.
Thanks.

When updating I have to manually uninstall previous version  and install the new one. the problem is that next all the indexing has to be done again.
This requires a LONG time... :(

Add my votes for DELETE button and ADD TO CONTACTS.
I'd also like to see a "cc:" column of checkboxes down the network names list so that I could check off 4 or 5 names before hitting the "Email this person" link. Xobni would then fill in all of the addresses in the new message.
Thanks for a great product. It had only been inertia that kept me using Outlook -- now I have a good reason!
I have been wishing for something like Xobni for ages, and I have been using it religiously ever since I got an invite.
Can we forgo pictures and lame eye candy for the time being?
I would love to see some of the following:
- The ability to see conversations in a full-pane view. The little snipits are not always helpful, especially when people have multi-line signatures that automatically bloat the content of an e-mail. The slider for conversation length is often not long enough.
- Because you are already extracting information about a contact, could you also remove signatures from the conversations?
- The ability to take notes about a phone conversation and attach it to one or more contacts. Not all business is done via e-mail, and in some businesses, e-mail is an inefficient and passive way of getting things done. I would still like to keep a log of ALL of the conversations I have, not just the e-mail conversations.

I like the improved search idea. It's really a must for large amounts of email.
The ability to quickly add to To:, cc:, bcc: I also like.
Would like to add, being able to drag and drop to those fields. For example, drag name from Xobni to a new already open email that you're writing and drop it on the cc: field. This would be common with multi-monitor users. The same drag and drop support for attachments please. :)
All in all I really like Xobni, keep up the great work. :D

I'd like to see a "progess" indicator when it's updating the index. When I initially open Outlook, there is some "sluggish" behavior when I clck through emails. I noticed in Task Manger that the searchindexer task takes up a fair amount of CPU cycles until the index is updated. Depending on how much new email is added, this could run for a few minutes and degrade overall system performance. A "reminder" that the system is busy would remind me to be patient while it's working.

The two most important things for me would be...
- The ability for the user to select which folders are indexed.
- To search in attachments. (Not just the attachment names).
Other features that would be good...
- Give the user more settings. It is nice to keep the program simple and easy to use, but it is also very helpful if people who want to get more into it have the option to do so and customize things according to their need.
- Better search options. (By phrase, from, AND, etc.)
But overall this is a great program I look forward to seeing how it develops.

The search options, from what I can gather, are pretty basic, compared to X1. It would be great if you could restrict search to the to: or from: fields, etc.

I have some contacts that have no first/last name (Local Bike Shop), but do have a company name. I can't search for company names and would like to. I also sometimes want to see all my contacts at a given company. I know I can just use Outlook for this, but I feel like Xobni should be my one-stop shop. I just hate to use Outlook and Xobni is my salvation at work where I have to use Outlook.
Add my votes for DELETE button and ADD TO CONTACTS as well.

Yes, contact integration and searching by town or country is important. An Open Contact button as well as an Add New Contact would be handy.
I don't need picture integration.

Hi, I'm just using xobni, but I have to tell you that I realy like it.
What I'm missing is a indication that tells you whether the contact is already in your adressbook or not (maybe with a colour or so). When it's not in the adressbook, there should be a function that easily adds it ...

I couldn't vote for any of those, because for me the next feature should be an ability to set which folders get indexed (including shared, public, deleted and similar folders), because at the moment while it looks like a nice tool the most important email for me to respond to is received at a shared inbox so the existing email indexing and searching is rendered COMPLETELY USELESS by that single omission, whereas the much more limited searching provided by Google Desktop doesn't even try to do most of what Xobni does, but has to remain my way of searching emails as a result.

Add my voice to suggest indexing the Deleted folder. Xobni search is largely useless to me without being able to search the Deleted folder.

None of these options in the vote looks very usefull to me.
But in the forum are a few others that do look very handy to have...
colours, unmerge, old e-mail management, folder selection etc.

Hi folks,
Using xobni in a corporate environment, we all use outlook with standard templates for mail formatting. These standard mails all contain the same few images like a corporate logo etc.
The 'Files Exchanged' section literally bursts with all these files, which are basically totally useless. It would be GREAT if we could specify in Xobni which files is should NOT include in this list (and also keep it out of stats etc).
Best regards,
Jaap Lelie.

First: Great tool, loved it immediately and something I was looking for for long time!
The conversations sections currently shows all emails involving the person. In a company environment, this includes a lot of announcements, memos, newsletter, etc. ,so that the actual conversations with that person are hard to find.
It would be nice to have a simple switch button to select between:
1. Showing all conversations INVOLVING the person (as it is now)
2. Showing all conversations directly WITH the person
Cheers,
S.

I couldn't agree more. Better integration with Contacts is the biggest missing piece of functionality in an otherwise outstanding software tool.

Hi!
You know, a lot of my ricipients are using html signatures with logos, etc.
So, in file exchange I can see a big list of *.gif files of the same name, but with different date. It would be perfect to able to filter it out.

I have made this comment in feature request section earlier..
If one has emails in inbox from multiple email ids, for the same user i.e personal/work email ids, then those are treated as separate users and their profiles. So, it would be helpful to provide an option to put multiple email ids or quickly merge profiles. If required, one can be marked as 'Primary' email, for which emails are search first and if required, people can select/un-select to show emails from secondary email ids.....
Just an idea to improve it further...it's a great toll even otherwise......

hello,
iŽd like to have better outlook integration. clicking on "Schedule time with ..." should open a outlook appointment and NOT an e-mail where the free times are noted.
office communicator integration would be nice (call, send instant message).
