View Full Version : Partial Synchronization

I had/have an interesting issue with Xobni (which, incidentally, I love).
I had a clean and successful initial installation and used it for several days. I had an unrelated system crash at that point, which caused the classic "Outlook was not closed correctly" message to come up on restart, and once it "revived", Xobni was no longer working or visible within Outlook. After trying all the usual plugin fixes, I opted to uninstall and reinstall, which seemed to go fine. However, while Xobni synch'd all my Inbox messages, it did not get any of the subfolders or Sent items other than the ones that have gone in and out since the date of the reinstallation. Is there any way to force a synchronization of subfolders and/or other folders?

You can manually sync Xobni with Outlook by clicking Synchronize in the Xobni-Menu. Maybe this will help to get the mails in the subfolders.

Howdy,
When Xobni first installs it does a quick sync so that you can get up and running. When you're idle (and have Outlook open), it runs in the background to complete indexing of your email, calendar items, etc. If you wait for a few hours (usually within the day), the indexing should complete.
To quickly finish the process and ensure it occurs, though, you can do what pixelgeek suggest: In the Outlook menu bar, click Xobni -> Synchronize.
Thanks pixelgeek for the quick answer. :) I hope this helps!

I gave that a shot a few times, and pretty much the same result--it got everything in my Inbox, but none of the subfolder contents until after the date of the synch. So, for example, if I click on an email from someone I correspond with a lot, I'll see 235 In and 4 Out, when in reality there's a couple hundred Out mails in my Sent folder. Letting it synch for a couple of days makes no difference.

My first Xobni installation went fine and synchronized everything, but after a system crash, I've only had partial functionality as noted above after a reinstallation.

I'm thinking maybe Xobnis data store got corrupted after the sytem crash since it did work at one time.
What I'd try is...
-uninstalling Xobni...
-Delete everything/anything in
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_LOCAL_NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Xobni\ folder
-Re-install Xobni and allow it to build it's index fresh from scratch

It was actually simpler than I thought.
I assumed that when you did a synch, Xobni automatically scanned your whole mailbox. Apparently, not the case. I had been starting the synch with "Inbox" selected/highlighted in my Folders list (not on purpose, it was just the last folder I was in). When I synched, it only synched the Inbox. I noticed this, and selected/highlighted "Mailbox" instead, then re-synched. This time, it got everything.
I don't think it's a paradigm of 'Xobni synchs whatever folder you have selected and all of its children', since my Sent Items folder didn't get synched when I had Inbox selected, and it's a child of Inbox. So I'm not entirely sure if this is a feature and I just didn't read the instructions or what, but I'm back in business now in any case. So, future tip--if you can't get everything to synch, make sure you've got the topmost level of your folders list selected before you do it.
