At some point I realized that the xobni sidebar did not show and the menu entry was also gone. I tried the Tool/Option/Addins activatze & deactivate but for no good. In the end I tried a "Remove" (not sure now) in this dialog and now I keep getting a message from OL that a file "extend.dat" was not found. I am afraid I have seriously corrupted my installation of OL.

Btw, still xobniservice.exe is trying to connect to <ip>. What good is that for?

Tnanks for your help.

Try taking a look in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. Is there a file named "extend.dat" there? If so, try renaming it to something else and restarting Outlook. That file should get rebuilt from registry entries once you restart.

If the XobniService is still installed and running, then it sounds like Xobni was never properly removed.

I re-installed and everything seems to be fine at the moment.

Why is that service calling home?

It runs in the background and periodically checks for update to Xobni.

Yep, Gary's right. That IP is our machine that tells Xobni clients whether an update is available.
