Hi,
I just installed Xobni and it shows nicely in my Outlook. Despite synchronization Xobni stays empty, if I click on an email there is still the message "No email selected". The synchronization only took a few seconds and ended without having done anything and without giving an error message. Anyone an idea what the problem could be? Did I forget to do something?
I have Microsoft XP and Outlook 2003.
Thanks,
Florian
Even though Xobni says it's done synchronizing, it may still take a while for information to appear in the sidebar. It depends on the size of your data store, but 24 hours is not an unheard of time for everything to get synced up.

Hi Florian,
While Gary is right that it might take a while to get *all* your email synced in, you shouldn't be getting a completely empty sidebar after the initial installation. I'd suggest this:
1) Delete the folder C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Xobni --> be sure to substitute your Windows logon user for the <user> variable in the path
2) Open Outlook. This should start a new initial sync and rebuild your indexes.
If you're still having issues after trying this, send me a message so we can do some more investigation.

Hey guys,
I waited the whole night, nothing happened so I tried Ryans procedure but I got the same issues after doing so.
I don't have admin rights on my computer so it was installed from the network administrator when he was logged in as admin. The ...\Application Data\Xobni folder was in the right place though and the sidebar looks normally when I start Outlook.
Thanks,
flo
Hi Flo,
Lets take this off-line. I'd be interested in getting your logs.
Thanks,
Ryan
I'm having the same issues as the threadstarter. Mine doesn't show up anything. After restarting and reinstalling...
btw, i'm using Outlook 2007

I too still have an empty Xobni after sync. Any luck with this?
I've the same problem. I get nothing in the xobni bar after sync.
I check on complements and have XobniRdo Oulook extension selected and in COM complements have nothing. Is this OK?
Thanks

I am having the same problem where all I see is "No Email Selected" in the sidebar even though there is email selected. It was working the first 2 days I had it, but this morning, stopped working.

I have the same problem. The sidebar is only mentioning "No email selected". Everything else is empty. Done the manual sync and even tried the "delete xobni folder" option. Still no result:confused:

Done the manual sync and deleted xobni folder and waited 12 hours of no computer use for the index to rebuild. Still no result.
I sent an email through the Xobni tech system before realizing there was a Xobni Forum and so I haven't heard back "offficially" but I'm getting the feeling I'm not alone.

Hi everybody,
We've found a few reasons this bug may occur, and we have fixed most of them. The new version should fix this problem. In the meantime, please hang tight!
As a suggestion, though, we'd love if you could try:
1) uninstalling
2) checking that the following directory no longer exists: C:\Documents and Settings\[NAME]\Local Settings\Application Data\Xobni
3) re-installing
4) if the problem is still there, please send your logs to Xobni Support
Thanks for your patience - it definitely sucks when you can't try something out immediately after getting it.

Not sure which "new version" you are referring to, but I just downloaded and installed today, and I'm getting the "no email selected" error.

Agreed, same problem here and running 2007. Uninstalled, reinstalled, deleted folder and contents. Sync all mail completes in about 2 seconds and no results (other than my own email address, but with no statistics)

To be clear, the new version is one expected to arrive in mid- to late-May. We're not closing this yet.

Another user with all the same issues as above. Tried all the suggested remedies - nothing worked. Uninstalling and will try to remember to download new version next month.

Please don't take this offline! I have the same problem with Xobni on my new laptop whereas Xobni worked fine on my previous machine. I've had to change to Thunderbird because i can't live without a functional search.

Me too 14/5/2008 - did everything suggested previously (and more) but when i click on an email from anyone, their profile does not appears in Xobni. I even downloaded again, deleted all xobni directories (everywhere), checked add-ins had disappeared & reinstalled. Still no luck. I run outlook 2007 on XP SP2. I store my pst's in a directory under my documents & have even tried putting shortcuts to these pst's into the default outlook directory. It'd be useful to have something in the options to ensure that xobni definitely points to the pst's to be indexed. Also some profile management functionality would be great. That way we could try out all sorts of stuff before hassling you :)
p.s. looks like the kind of product i'd love to have ... now if we cam get it to work, that'd be sensational

@ Everyone:
Hey folks! If you're experiencing the issue where the Sidebar will not load any profiles, and the message "no email selected" appears, please try these steps:
1) Go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Uninstall 'Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0'.
2) Go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en (if you have a 64-bit processor, you may want a different version)
3) Download the installer, run it to reinstall the latest version of the .NET Framework.
While this may not solve 100% of the problems, we have had a lot of success in getting people up and running using this method. The issue is a corrupt .NET Framework installation, and once it's reinstalled, things are usually back to normal for people.
If this solution doesn't solve the issue for you, please contact our Support Team!
Thanks!

I've got mine working but it took a bit of doing. Here's what i did:
I uninstalled Xobni (inbox backwards for those that haven't got it yet)
I deleted all Xobni related directories (if they remained)
I did a registry clean
I repaired .NET 2
I copied shortcuts of all my outlook data files into the default directory (i store them elsewhere for backup purposes)
I edited the shortcut names to remove "shortcut to"
I reinstalled Xobni
Hey presto ... success. I'm loving this app
p.s. To the guys @ Xobni ... some functionality where you can point to outlook data files that aren't in the default / profile location would be great . Keep up the good work

Thank you. The remove and re-install of .net 2.0 has fixed my problem.

Repairing .NET 2.0 finally allowed it to work for me too. Just curious, does everyone else out there that had the problem have .NET 3.0 loaded also? Just curious on root cause, since it did not seem to be a corrupt install of .NET. I am thinking it may have been because of the multiple versions on the same machine. Thanks for the fix anyway, I can finally use it! :D

I'm in the same boat as smilg. Uninstalled .Net 2.0, reinstalled - no change. Still says no email selected.
Am feeling really left out with all of you enjoying xobni, but I'm one of those simpletons who downloads software and wants it to work like touted. Really wish I did not have to get a phD in comp science to do this...

Now this is getting interesting- right after my last post, I uninstalled xobni and reinstalled it. Still says no email selected, but now the analytics work!! Previously the analytics had not worked either...
I'm probably really close to fixing it..and would love to have it working, but I'll probably spend less time perusing through me emails the old-fashioned way...

@ smilg & adaga:
If you've already followed the recommended steps with reinstalling .NET, then it's probably a good time to contact the Support Team. I wonder if there's something happening behind the scenes..?
Well, we'll dig into it a little futher. Also, be sure to reference this forum thread so that we can match you up with the support ticket!
Thanks!

Another thing that was causing a similar problem for me was the fact that Office 2003 PIAs got corrupted. Here is the link (http://community.xobni.com/showpost.php?p=2837&postcount=8) to my post from another thread. Re-installing Office 2003 PIAs fixed the problem for me.

When I heard Xobni beta is better specific to Outlook, I uninstalled X1 :-( (it was an excellent desktop search)
I have done the following exercise earlier this year too and then uninstalled Xobni.
1. Uninstalled Xobni
2. Deleted contents in Documents and Settings -> User -> Local Settings -> Application Data -> Xobni
3. Uninstalled and re-installed Microsoft .NET 2.0 SP1 framework.
4. Installed Xobni
5. Ran Index all mail many times
It hardly runs for a few minutes and completes. "No email selected" appears on the Xobni side bar. 've mailed support, expecting reply.
XobniRdo is checked in Outlook Add-In Manager.
