View Full Version : Sidebar Not Loading
All,
This morning my Xobni sidebar stopped loading. At the top of the Xobni menu it states "Sidebar Loading Error". Any ideas? The analytics will run, but I can't get the sidebar to come up.
I had installed the saleforce.com "Connect for Microsoft Outlook" plug-in and thought maybe that could be causing the problem, but a complete removal did not resolve the issue.
I've checked the add-ins and Xobni is listed as being active. FYI, I am running Windows XP SP2 and Outlook 2007.
Thanks!

Hi Gary,
Would you mind sending me your log file? This is an issue we're trying to track down, and every bit of info helps! You can find the log at:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Xobni\xobni2.log
I'll message you with my email address. Thanks!

Hi Gary, yup we've seen this before and are working on a fix. In the mean time you can uninstall/reinstall or delete your data files folder while Outlook is closed (in XP: c:\documents and settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Xobni).
Sorry for the inconvenience -- we're working on it! :)

You'll want to grab the log files Ryan mentioned before doing the repair steps. :)

Just an update...
Thanks for pointing me to the location of the log...couldn't remember where that was for some reason!
Blowing away the data store solved the problem of the sidebar not loading, but I then had a problem whereby selecting an individual email did not change the information that got loaded into the sidebar. In other words, the sidebar was always stuck with the same data.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Xobni, and all is good now (except that I'm at Version 1.0.3 Build 2456!).

Okay...so another quick update...
When I uninstalled I didn't notice the web browser that was asking me why I uninstalled. When I selected the "temporary uninstalled" option, I was sent to a page to download the latest version.
So I uninstalled and reinstalled again and am now at Version 1.2.3 Build 2804.

I'm having the same "sidebar loading error". It may be related to Outlook being forcibly closed.
I'd like to try uninstalling/reinstalling, but if I do that, will I lose all the data that xobni has collected for me?
Since nobody has offered any info or solution (anyone there??), I kept messing around and found a workaround. I'm posting it here in case anyone else is having this "sidebar loading error" problem.
My Outlook 2003 is borked and for some reason never closes without having to be killed in Task Manager. (Yes, I know this is a problem and sometime will spend the hours needed to fix it.) What happens is when I close Outlook with the top right X, the window closes but the process never stops. Once I manually kill it, then restart Outlook, Xobni won't load its sidebar because it seems to dislike this forced closing.
You can trick it, though. At this point, I just press the top right X and close the Outlook window again. I leave the process running. Then, I click on the Outlook icon again which re-opens the window (using the existing process). Xobni takes this as a clean start and - voila! - my sidebar works.

Kate,
Thanks for figuring this strange workaround out. When I read it, I had doubts it would solve my problem, with the sidebar not loading, but it did. :)
thnx.
